Hey y'all,
Now that I have got my shizzle together and got online with the banking, I am gonna sting everyone for winter league money.
Below is a repeat of the list that TQ put up. Can you indicate whether you have paid already - I think a lot of people still need to pay. If you want to do a bank transfer look on the members section of the forum for the club account details. If you want you can give me the money this week.
I would like all the money by this time next week.

Apologies if you have already paid, I know a couple of people are going to pay on Tuesday, but can you still please reply to this with what you are going to do! In future for things like this can you make sure that if you are paying by cash the money goes to me directly. I don't want to have to chase up other team members (even if I live with them) for other peoples money. Sweet.
Thanks!

Hi all,
About mid-December, the teams that are lucky enough to get a place at this coming Paganello were announced. Kent Open is one of these teams.
Obviously this is one of the most incredible things that could happen to KO, as it is one of the best tournaments in the world, and the first time KO has gone abroad. It did present a problem though, as we couldn't invite everyone to play a five-a-side tournament. Apologies if you weren't asked to play, hopefuly with the team we've got, we'll qualify for the next year and be back again, and again, and again.
Congrats to

Hey All,
Kate's taken the minutes from the AGM, so look out for those for highlights shared of the season past,
For now, I'd like to explain my intentions as captain, and what I'd like to do with the club over the coming year.
Autumn
It was agreed at the AGM that we'd keep both Tuesdays and Thursdays running as long as the light allows us to, for fun Tuesdays ending up at the Monument for 'The Biggest Pub Quiz in Canterbury', and Thursdays for a training session.
I really like this idea, as there's features of ultimate that people enjoy going on at both trainings, a bit of fun on Tuesdays, when maybe a mac line is a greater priority than holding the force, and Thursdays will allow people to stay in shape ready to impress the KTT freshers coming our way soon.
I like naming the trainings as well, as people can deliberatly pick out what they want, and if they have a life outside of ultimate (?), then they can prioritise what they want.
When the light beats us, I'd like to make a real effort with Sundays as a way of developing bonds between KO and KTT, so when KTT have got regionals/ nationals coming up, we can give them what they want, either working on some specifics, or a competitive game of ultimate, or mixing it up and offering them tea & toast at 43B if they just want it to be social.
Indoors
I don't really have a PLAN for indoors, I was just gonna take each tournament as its announced, and see if we've got enough interest/women/ drivers. If a tournament looks fun, I say we go to it and have fun.
Indoor nationals is in Glasgow in the new year, and I'm not really that motivated to hike all the way up there if I've got work on the Monday, but I've no problem entering a team if there's enough interest, or stepping aside, and dedicating trainings to the effort, if there's enough people with the intention of qualifying for and going to nationals.
I'm going to start looking into booking St Ed's indoor hall again for the Indoor season, as it's easy for KTT to get to, a nice enough hall, with campus pubs nearby, and we've still got RV up there to let us in when the caretaker goes on holiday/ ceases to exist.
Although word is there's a reason to go to Barton Court, so I'm going to be looking into that as another option, and if more people want to head to that side of town.
Tour
In the new year I'd like to run some trainings dedicated to tour, so that we are ready for the 2010 season, and can continue to compete with teams at the top of the B tour, and in the A tour. I'd also like Mash, Gladys, Bus and our dearly departed SC, amongst others, to keep the Mustang love going, as Mustang looked to be an amazing thing to be part of this season past.
KTT
I'd like to make a big effort to recruit from KTT this year, as we are losing some players to rainier parts of the country, which is why I'm preferring St Ed's for indoors at the moment, and would like to make an effort with Sundays being about helping KTT as much as KO. All the KTT players that played tour for Mustang/ Open added to the great vibe on both teams, so I'm just looking for more of the same.
Recruitment
This is mostly covered in everything above, building links with KTT, looking at indoors at St Ed's so RV could bring a couple of players, and Robin might not be too far away either.
If YOU want something to happen with Kent this year, then speak to me and let's make it happen
tq
Training dates up to christmas

Yo,
as every single advert will remind you, christmas isn't that far away, KTT students will be off home soon and many of our older players will disappear for a short hibernation, so I thought I'd put our training dates up to christmas, so no one shows up, in a santa hat, to a practice all by themselves.
So....
Saturday 12th
KO vs KTT
all welcome, we'll warm up, then play the students, hopefully improving our chances at LWL on Sunday.
Sunday 13th
LWL. We're going on the train, so the only restriction on how many people we take is how tolerant you are of public transport, and how much you like travelling in a group, goofing around.
Tuesday 15th
Indoors at St Eds. Haven't heard from them about when their term ends, but we have a key

Should be fine.
Sunday 20th
Some peeps are at Slingfest. If you wanna chuck a christmas disc around, then have a christmas pint, then maybe organize it here? Or on 'face book'?

You ever wonder where we get ideas for warm ups, drills and in-game tactics?
They might be ideas that we learnt to do while learning the game, established drills like Seattle/end zone, square drill fit into this catagory, or they might be ideas that we've copied off of other established teams, like when Whip brings an idea back from Fire training, or when I pass on some stuff from Brighton. They might be things that we've just made up, and want to see how it works, or have tweaked with an established drill.
There's another catagory to where we get ideas from, and that's from the best book you'll ever buy. You've heard me harp on about the 'Good book' every now and then, so why not check out what's so good about it yourself.
If you look at the catagories of where we get our tactics from;
established tactics people have 'always done'
copied from other teams
ideas/ changes we've implemented ourselves
any of these ideas we've had should originate from playing good ultimate, and improving our individual and team standard.
The good book goes into detail on established tactics, breaking down ideas as fundamental to the game such as the force, stack formations, and cutting, establishing why they are used, and how they can be used effectively.
It covers individual skills, like basic throwing and catching, as well as team skills, like both zone and man defence, giving a good introduction, as well as explanations on how to play them better. It's break down of features integral to the game mean it is a must have for every player trying to get better, because it is good advice.
Sometimes the advice I give is a little shaky, or doesn't quite add up. Sometimes Whippet's explanations don't quite cover what we were trying to ask. You should rely on the source of good ultimate to be your guide, so that anything I try to run at practice can be improved and augmented by other people's input. I'm an okay player. You could be listening to advice from world-beating players that know the game inside out, and have the know how to be world champions both for their club and country.
You can find the book on sale here:
http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/4554 ... Price&fb=0Which makes it perfect for your christmas list. Buy it. Read it. Focus on its advice at practice. Take the ethos of improving your game to every tournament. Talk to people about it. Share advice. Enjoy ultimate.
‘Winning ultimate demands that not only players (and teams) work hard and learn the game – it requires them to imbue themselves with the proper attitude. Resolve yourself to become a good player. Good players chase down swill. Good players clear out. Good players cut when their tired. Good players remember the defence. Good players call for help when they need it. In fact, “good players” are great players. Great teams also need great teammates. Become a great teammate. Be ready to play on time. Critique, but don’t criticize your teammates. Apologize for your mistakes. Take yourself out of the game when you’re tired. Eschew pride.’

I don't think I've made nearly enough of this amongst the team and I'm worried there are some people who don't actually know. I've made a massive fuss when the juniors have had success in the past, but this is about as big as it gets (until World Clubs next year). Iceni won the European Club Championships!! It's the Ultimate equivalent of the Champions League. Kate and Charli rocked up to the trials at the beginning of the year of the best Womens team in Great Britain, got picked, won three tours, won nationals, then won Euros!
Iceni dominated throughout the weekend, with 15-7 being the lowest score before the final. Then they met their old foes Leeds in the final, which Iceni won 14-11.
Here are a few photos of our Kent grown superstars...

Hey guys, just a reminder that I am walking on hot coals for charity on Friday 23rd (less than 2 weeks!) and would love it if people could sponsor me. It doesn't have to be a lot, but any money that is donated is going towards the charity move, which is one that helps a lot of children and adults in the UK and Europe. If you also want to come and watch the event where there will be burgers, beer and fireworks, then please also let me know and I will get you a ticket.
I'm afraid I don't have a just giving page, but will be bringing me sponsorship form to the next few trainings.
Thanks and see you tomorrow

Hi Friends,
So! What a season!! With Brighton Beyond marking the end of our Outdoor season (at least for a while - we don't have any tournaments lined up), we should start to reflect on the hard work, successes and fun of the last year, and we should start to think about the future. So I'm proposing an AGM and end of year Social.
How are people fixed for Saturday 5th September? I'm thinking Saturday afternoon we'll do some sort of disc based activity (maybe some disc golf on campus) followed by BBQ (or similar) at 43b Station Road West. People are welcome to crash here, or I'm sure there is floor space elsewhere in Canterbury. It would be amazing if we could get as many people as possible so we can celebrate what an awesome team we are. So invites are going out to everyone who has played for us this season and ever.
We need to elect new exec members - Captain, President, Treasury, WebMonkey, Mixed Captains etc
We also need to determine a new direction for the club. As with every team at some time in the year, players are going to move on, and we're no exception this year. Several of our very successful First Generation Junior Programme (FGJP) will be emigrating to universities. Several uni students will have gone. We can work out at the AGM who is still around. Depending on numbers we're going to need to think about how often we train. There's a likelihood that without KTT members we might have low numbers so we're going to need to think about how we're going to get new players, and what efforts and commitments people are prepared to make to make this happen. But it's all very exciting. We also have the Tri Tournament to look forward to on Halloween (Pete - would you help me with the website sometime soon please, you big hero?).
Feel free to discuss any issues here pre-AGM, but it might be best to discuss somethings face to face over several beers.
Must go to training. See you soon y'all.
Cheers Kent

Having slipped away up North to convert them to Southern ways/teach, I just thought I'd say thanks for a great year Kent. It's been fantastic to be part of KO, meet so many excellent people and play some brilliant ultimate. I'm all the better for having spent 12 months in your company - will see you soon.
